The math doesn't lie....

I've never liked math and I don't have much of an aptitude for numbers ( I'm an artist after all). But the numbers don't lie!

Today is my second weigh in Friday and the math is still working....2 more lbs lost! Knowing my BMR (basal metabolic rate) is really what is keeping me on track. Knowing how many calories my body needs to maintain my present weight ( 2409) and then with a combination of eating less ( 1500 calories a day) and exercising more to burn about 1100 calories a day.....equals two pounds of fat burned off in a week....just like last week. It's not magic....it's math. There is no fudging it or thinking "what can I get away with eating?" The BMR is a proven formula and if you follow it, it works....simple as that.
I feel like I found the method of understanding that will make it easier for me to stay on track each day, knowing what my target is and knowing that it works. I kind of feel like Dorothy when she is looking for answers from Glinda the Good Witch "Why Dorothy, you've always had the power, you just had to discover it for yourself!"
And I think that is key......I can read all the weight loss tips and methods, and over the years I've read all about how calories in and calories burned is the way to lose weight....but I needed to do "the science" of it myself and see that it works for me. It's as simple as knowing your number. Now, I have the power.
If you didn't read the earlier post all about finding your own BMR, here it is.

Recipe of the day

I don't particularly like cooked zucchini,
but this recipe using very thinly sliced raw zucchini is delicious!

This is a very straightforward salad of thinly sliced zucchini drizzled with a lemon and olive oil dressing, and topped with fresh basil and freshly ground black pepper. A food processor or mandoline makes short work of the slicing.

Ingredients:
  • 1 pound zucchini, thinly sliced
  • Juice 1 lemon
  • 1 tsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 tbsp finely chopped fresh basil
  • you can add a little grated Romano or Parmesan, just remember to count it!

Preparation:

Arrange thinly sliced zucchini in a shallow bowl. Drizzle with lemon juice and olive oil. Add a generous grind of freshly ground black pepper and sprinkle fresh basil on top. Serve at room temperature.

Tip of the Day

Saying 'no' to cravings just makes you want them more. The trick is to learn to stop after a few bites. Next time you get a craving, allow yourself a certain small number of bites of the food that you desire. This is your 'pause point.' Once your reach your 'pause point,' stop eating and assess whether you are still craving the food or are just mindlessly eating it. Take this time to put the snack away and see if you can stop the impulse.
